TWO suspects have been arrested in connection with a suspected burglary in the early hours of today (Friday, April 29).

Cleveland Police were called at around 3.30am to Lady Mantle Close in Bishop Cuthbert, Hartlepool, after a member of the public reported a man behaving suspiciously, carrying tools and a pressure washer whilst riding a pedal bike.

Following the recovery of items such as tools, a boxed garden trimmer and bottles of alcohol, officers were able to trace the victim of the alleged burglary using social media.

Detective Sergeant Phil Agar said: “We would like to thank those members of the public who shared the information that we posted on social media. This assisted us greatly in tracing the owner of these items and they will be returned at the earliest possible opportunity.”

A 35-year-old man was apprehended by a police dog and dog handler after he attempted to make off from the scene on a pedal cycle. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary. A 37-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Both suspects are in police custody.
