YOUNG adults are being offered the chance to swap Hartlepool for the Bay of Biscay.

The town is taking part in a new exchange programme with Gijon City Council in northern Spain to encourage people aged 16-30, who are not in education, employment or training, to broaden their horizons.

Organised by Hartlepool Council’s adult education team and funded by the European Union’s Erasmus Plus programme, the scheme aims to build young adults’ skills and self-confidence.

Eight volunteers are needed for the exchange, which will involve young adults from Gijon visiting Hartlepool from April 4 to 9 April and the Hartlepool group visiting Gijon from May 9 to 13. All accommodation will be provided – there is no requirement for families to host the guests.

Maria Maley, Hartlepool adult education skills co-ordinator said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our young adults to broaden their horizons and explore the cultural and employment opportunities in another European country.”

Anyone interested in finding out more is invited to attend a short presentation about the project on Friday, February 26 at 1pm in the Adult Education Building in Tower Street, Hartlepool.
