A COMMUNITY centre will soon be given a free makeover as dozens of DIY professionals prepare to lend a helping hand.

Trimdon Grange Community Centre is the lucky winner of a region wide competition that gave community groups and charities the chance to scoop the money-can’t-buy prize.

The competition, organised by JDP Contracting Services, is returning for a second time this year after a successful first run last summer.

The Newton Aycliffe based company will offer all of their resources plus a thirty-strong team to carry out the makeover, which will see the centre transformed in just one day.

Managing director Chris Hyde said: “We are delighted to be able to run the competition again, it’s a fantastic opportunity for us as a business to do something for the community.”

The competition is judged using various criteria and judges consider how the centre is used, by how many people and how many volunteers would be able to help with the makeover.

Mr Hyde added: “We are looking forward to getting started in Trimdon Grange, hopefully the weather is good and we can have a BBQ to celebrate after.”

It is hoped the work will be carried out on Friday, July 31.
