FAR-right activists took to the streets of Stockton today while anti-fascists held a demonstration on the High Street.

About 150 protestors from the North East Infidels – a splinter group of the North East English Defence League - marched from Green Dragon yard and along the High Street before holding a rally outside the council offices on Church Road.

There was a heavy police presence in the town centre, with officers keeping demonstrators from the two separate camps apart, and it remained peaceful.

The Teesside Solidarity Movement and People’s Assembly, along with some trade union activists, held a demonstration near the fountains on the High Street.

There was a brief altercation when one NEI supporter confronted an anti-fascist protestor, but police quickly moved him on.
