UKIP will be the largest party in the North-East by 2020, leader Nigel Farage predicted today.

As he visited one of the party's key target seats, Hartlepool, he told supporters he was targeting traditional Labour voters who were disillusioned with the "metropolitan elite" who had "betrayed" their core supporters.

He claimed the last poll conducted showed that 19 per cent of people who voted Labour in 2010 were planning to vote UKIP.

But he believed the polls had drastically underestimated UKIP and believed the party had far more support than they reflected.
