THE first anniversary of the Hartlepool Park Run saw 88 runners tackle the scenic five kilometre route with some donning fancy dress to mark the occasion.

With many regulars taking part in the London Marathon, the number turning out shows how popular the event is becoming with elite and amateur runners alike.

The event, which takes entrants from Maritime Way in the town to Seaton Carew and back, continues to go from strength to strength, according to race director Sue McKenna.

"We had quite a good turnout considering there were a fair few taking part in the London Marathon this weekend," she said. "It seems to be a really popular route and everybody does seem to enjoy taking part as it is suitable for elite and amateur runners.

"When we first started out we had less than 60 people taking part and it is getting more popular. We expect to see more and more people taking part as we head towards the summer."

Anyone wanting to take part should meet at the end of the promenade on Maritime Way, next to the circular car park, on a Saturday morning with a start time of 9am.
