ARMED police searched a field on the outskirts of Middlesbrough following reports of a man walking through a field with a gun.
Officers traced the man in the area of Upsall Grange Farm, Nunthorpe, near Middlesbrough, and discovered he was carrying an air weapon.
A BMW marked car, an unmarked Ford people carrier and the police helicopter were all deployed to the scene this morning.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "Officers are currently with man and there is nothing for the public to be concerned about."
In a later statement, the force said a 21-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of a firearms offence and is currently in custody awaiting questioning.
