THE achievements of young people in Hartlepool have been celebrated at a special awards ceremony in the town.

More than 40 youngsters received accolades at the eighth annual ‘The Future’s Bright, The Future’s Young People Awards’, which were held in front of a 300-strong audience in the Borough Hall on the Headland.

The awards recognise the special achievements of young people aged 11-18. They are organised by Hartlepool Youth Parliament, supported by Hartlepool Borough Council’s Participation Team.

The awards – which took the form of trophies – were presented by Hartlepool boxer Peter Cope and his brother Lewis Cope from Ruff Diamonds.

Hartlepool Youth Parliament Member Farah Razzaq said: “Congratulations to all the winners and nominees.

“These awards show that young people in Hartlepool are achieving lots of great things in so many different areas. Their courage, talent and determination are an inspiration and they are truly a credit to their town.”

Winners were: Courage - Katie Jukes; Young Person's Champion - Robyn Reid; Back on Track – Adam Birch; Entertainment – Ethan Scott; Outstanding Contribution to Youth Work – Holly Bratt; Academic Achievement – Matthew Watson; Fundraising – Connor Stallard; Sporting Success –Rozzy Plaza;Volunteering in the Community – Reece Moran; Project of the Year – Throston Youth Group.
