A SERIES of early morning raids have been carried out across two North-East towns as suspected Class A drug dealers were targeted.

Cleveland Police forced entry to six addresses in Middlesbrough and Darlington as officers targeted people suspected of dealing in heroin and cocaine.

Among the addresses targeted were properties on Birkhall Road, Thorntree, Middlesbrough, and Walworth Grove, Acklam.

Detective Inspector John Ward, from Cleveland Police Organised Crime Unit, said: “This investigation, carried out by Cleveland Police Organised Crime Unit, is focused on a broad drugs distribution network supplying large amounts of heroin, cocaine and amphetamine across County Durham and Cleveland.

“This morning we have arrested six people on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

“Cleveland Organised Crime Unit has had much success in prosecuting higher level criminals for the importation and supply of dangerous drugs across the county.

“Today sees the continuance of that effort and is a reminder to those involved in organised crime that there are officers out there continually working to bring them to justice.

“Illegal drugs adversely impact communities and Cleveland Police is dedicated to fighting the criminals that make these drugs available. We will relentlessly pursue those involved.”

Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner Barry Coppinger, who joined officers on the raids, said: “This has been a well planned operation and will help to make a real difference in terms of quality of life for residents who I’m sure totally support the police in their work.”
