A FOOTBALL pundit has quit Twitter following a row involving his son's goalkeeping ability.

Jeff Stelling who fronts Sky's Soccer Saturday and the broadcaster's Champions League footage, told his 415,000 followers that he was quitting the social network because he did not trust he would be able to respond to 'some people in a correct way'.

The Hartlepool-born TV presenter jumped to the defence of his 14-year-old son after another Twitter user branded the teenager's keeping skills as 'shit'.

He reacted angrily to the comment saying it wasn't banter it was abuse.

The former Countdown presenter confronted the other user over the weekend and apologised for any offence he may have caused during the angry exchange.

In his final tweet on Monday night he wrote 'Thanks for your support over last couple of years. Am closing account as I don't trust myself to respond to some people in a correct way'.
