AMATEUR golfers from around the world will head to Seaton Carew this week to play one of the country’s most challenging courses.

Twenty-nine years after hosting the English Men's Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship (Brabazon) for the one and only time, Seaton Carew Golf Club’s Brabazon Course is primed to pose problems for many of the sport’s hot talents.

After a couple of days of open practice sessions, the first of four days tournament play will take place from Wednesday, June 25, through until Saturday, June 28, when golfers will look to add their name to a list of previous winners including major Tour winner Charl Schwartzel.

Entry to the course is free to spectators throughout the week and this stunning picture from The Northern Echo’s Stuart Boulton offers a glimpse of what faces the golfers with a backdrop of industrial Teesside.

Seaton Carew is often referred to as one of the top 100 courses in the country and it is the tenth oldest. When it hosted the Brabazon Trophy in 1985, former Ryder Cup player Peter Baker won it.
