A MAN has suffered a punctured lung and fractured ribs after being assaulted by a gang of youths.

The 39-year-old was attacked at about 1.30pm on Monday, April 7 on Raby Road at the junction of Cameron Road in Hartlepool.

He was chased by a gang of youths and was assaulted with a weapon, leaving him with fractured ribs and a punctured lung. He is currently in James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough receiving treatment.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and was bailed pending further enquiries.
