Veterans urged to apply for badges
ARMED Forces veterans are
being urged to claim a badge of
honour to mark their service
prior to a townfs maritime festival.
The Veteransf Badge, issued
by the Government, is free to
anyone who served in the
Armed Forces, and also to people
who receive a war widowfs or
widowerfs pension.
Badges will be presented to the
townfs ex-service people on the
afternoon of Sunday, July 6, during
Hartlepool Maritime Festival,
when there will also be a variety
of military displays and a
veteransf parade.
Anyone who may be entitled to
a badge is urged to apply now by
completing an application form.
Ex-serviceman Tug Wilson
said: gThe badge shows people
that you have served your country,
and it should be worn with
pride by all the townfs veterans.
gSince the badge was
launched in 2004, more than 600
Hartlepool people have claimed
it, but there are still many more
who have not yet done so and I
would encourage them to apply.h
The application form is available
from the main reception
area at Hartlepool Civic Centre,
Hartlepoolfs Maritime Experience,
Hartlepool Art Gallery and
Tourist Information Centre, and
the townfs libraries.
It should be completed and returned
to Mr Wilson no later
than June 16.
There will be many Armed
Forces-related attractions at the
maritime festival, which will
take place around Hartlepoolfs
Maritime Experience and
Hartlepool Marina during the
weekend of July 4, 5 and 6 including:
A display of British, US and
German wartime vehicles.
The pipes and drums of the
40th Regiment of Royal Artillery.
Watersports displays.
A salsa party night with the
band Pink Champagne.
The premiere performance of
the Hartlepool Cobwebs Orchestra.
Visits from the ships James
Cook, Faramir and the Black Diamond
of Durham.
A comic performance of Hang
Aerial Dancefs wedding piece,
Get Knotted.
