VOLUNTEER cooks are being urged to get into the Bake-Off spirit in aid of a North-East Hospice.

The 31st annual May Fayre, in aid of the Butterwick Hospice, takes place on Norton Green, Stockton, on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7.

And the organisers are appealing for donations of cakes and sweets to sell on stalls on the big day.

Butterwick Events Fundraiser, Lyndsey Barnes said: “Everyone loves The Great British Bake-off so we’re hoping the nation’s enthusiasm for baking rubs off. Hopefully, the weather will be good so we can avoid any soggy bottoms!”

Lyndsey added: "It’s amazing to think that the event has been going for 31 years and this year will be another lovely family event so any culinary donations would be the icing on the cake.”

Entry is free for the fayre, which takes place between 11am and 4pm, and there are a host of fun activities lined up, including crafts and stalls, games, entertainment, fairground ride, and refreshments.
