THE ongoing revamp of Stockton's Globe has been given the seal of approval by some of the most influential leaders in the live entertainment industry.

Board members from the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) saw first-hand how the art-deco venue’s restoration is progressing.

Executive director of ATG Michael Lynas, said: “What an amazing venue the Globe is going to be. The restoration is clearly progressing at pace and we are really looking forward to seeing it come back to life as a unique venue suitable for large scale, 21st century live entertainment.

“In just a few months we will be gearing up to start programming – so watch this space – but there are certain to be great shows, music and comedy for everyone to enjoy.”

The restoration has taken a huge step forward with ATG staff from all divisions working alongside the project team on a weekly basis.

And at the moment the existing dressing room block is being demolished to make way for the new facilities needed for the large-scale music and comedy acts the venue will host.

This latest stage of the restoration comes following works to ensure the structure is watertight, all asbestos has been removed and the necessary surveys and investigations complete.

Salvageable pieces, such as sections of the stage, doors, and some of the bingo seats have been stored so that they can be returned to the restored Globe or form part of a display.

Stockton Borough Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and housing, Councillor Nigel Cooke, said: “It is a huge coup to be working with a world-renowned operator like ATG and we are delighted that they share our vision to transform the Globe.

“The inside of the Globe is changing by the day and the revamped venue promises to revive its art-deco glory while being appropriately designed to suit the kind of large scale, 21st century acts that ATG will attract when it reopens in spring 2019.”
