TWO RAF servicemen have landed ‘dream’ roles with the world-famous Red Arrows.

Corporal David Malcolm, from Darlington, County Durham, and Senior Aircraftman Ben Scarr, from Stockton, will make up part of the back seat support crew maintaining the aircraft for this year’s display season.

Cpl Malcolm, who went to Longfield Comprehensive School in the town, will travel as a passenger in one of the Red Arrows’ two-seat Hawk aircraft, flying at speeds of more than 350mph.

He has worked on Harrier GR9 and Tornado GR4 aircraft among others and has taken part in several overseas deployments.

Cpl Malcolm will be joined by Senior Aircraftman Scarr in forming a ten-strong team of engineers who are known as the ‘Circus Blues’.

The former Ramsay Church of England School pupil has worked with RAF Chinooks and completed military detachments in the Middle East.
