A MAN was left with serious internal injuries after being battered during a racist attack in a busy park.

The 59-year-old was walking through Middlesbrough’s Albert Park when he was subjected to a tirade of bigoted abuse before being repeatedly punched and kicked by three men.

He is currently being treated for serious injuries at the James Cook University Hospital, where he is believed to be in a stable condition.

Dog walkers, joggers and others were in the park at the time of the attack, which happened at around 6pm on Monday, October 16 close to the Park Road North entrance.

The three suspects are described as white, skinny and around 20-years-old. Two were wearing black jackets and the other a blue jacket with a red band across the chest.

Detective Sergeant Darren Wild, from Middlesbrough Operational Crime Team, urged anyone who saw the attack or has information about it to come forward.

He said: “Thankfully incidents like this one are rare and to reassure people in the local area we have now increased police patrols.

“We would like to speak to any joggers or dog walkers who were in the area at the time of the assault and would ask anyone with information to come forward.”

  • Anyone with information is asked to contact DS Wild from Middlesbrough Operational Crime Team on the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
