HUNDREDS of people are expected to join the family of a tragic four-year-old at a fundraising event in aid of the medics who battled to save her life.

Little Jessica Azadi died in September 2015 when a fireplace that had been safely secured in her garden fell onto her, leaving her with catastrophic head injuries.

Her mother and a family friend desperately attempted to save her life, alerting the emergency services and performing CPR.

Sadly, their efforts – and those of medics from the Great North Air Ambulance Service and Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital – could not help Jessica, who died in hospital shortly afterwards from her injuries.

The Thornaby schoolgirl’s sudden death shocked the community and left her family and friends devastated.

Throughout their heartbreaking ordeal, Jessica’s parents repeatedly expressed their gratitude to those who tried in vain to save their beloved daughter’s life.

To mark the first anniversary of the little girl’s death, her family are hosting a huge community fun day to celebrate her life and raise money for GNAAS and JCUH.

The Jessica Azadi 1st Memorial Fun Day will be held at Ingleby Barwick’s Whinstone Primary School from 11am until 5pm on Saturday, September 9.

Butterflies will be released in Jessica’s memory and her former dance school will perform in her honour.

Those attending can also meet Disney characters and enjoy live music, rides and a variety of games and activities.

A statement from her family said: “We want to remember Jessica and allow others to remember her in the way that she was – fun, loving, energetic and full of life.

“Jessica loved fun days and trips to the fair and we felt that this was a fitting tribute.

“The support we received from both James Cook University Hospital and the Great North Air Ambulance Service was phenomenal and we felt compelled to raise as much money as possible in Jessica’s memory to support both causes.”

Tickets for the event, priced £2 or £5 for a family of four, can be purchased from a variety of places, including Thornaby businesses Divine Greek, Pizza and Co, Neveah Beauty, The Sun Bed Shop, the Irene Jessop Funeral Home and Heart to Heart florists.
