A MAN has been arrested following a multi-vehicle crash which has left another man in a critical condition in hospital.

The collision between a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a dark blue BMW 320 series convertible took place at around 5.40pm yesterday on Milbank Lane in Thornaby, near Stockton.

The 34-year-old driver of the BMW was airlifted to James Cook Univeristy Hospital in Middlesbrough with multiple injuries, and remains in a critical condition.

Following the crash, police were looking to identifiy the driver of a black Volkswagen Golf.

A 23-year-old man, who is believed to be the driver of the Volkswagen Golf, has been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.

Another man, aged 26, was also arrested but was released from custody without bail conditions whilst enquiries continue.

The 59-year-old male driver of the Vauxhall Corsa was treated at hospital for minor injuries and was later released.
