A WOMAN cut off by the rising tide at the base of Huntcliff at Saltburn this afternoon (Saturday, June 24) was rescued by lifeboats.

She

The had been jogging from Redcar towards Skinningrove when she realised her way forward was blocked by the rising water and then her escape route towards Saltburn had also become submerged.

The Redcar lifeboats launched at around 2.30pm and once on scene a crew member swam ashore to check the woman’s wellbeing before she was picked up by lifeboat.

She was landed ashore near the Ship Inn, Saltburn, and placed into the care of a coastguard rescue team.

Earlier in the day the Redcar lifeboat was launched to tow back to Redcar a fishing boat which had suffered steering failure.

Meanwhile, Hartlepool RNLI's all weather lifeboat launched at 11.10am yesterday (Saturday, June 24) to help a member of crew of a crude oil tanker anchored four miles off the port after he had fallen and suffered a leg injury.

The RNLI doctor boarded the tanker with two RNLI crew members to assess the injured man and he was transfered to the lifeboat and returned to Hartlepool RNLI Lifeboat Station - and transferred to a waiting ambulance.

Hartlepool RNLI coxswain Robbie Maiden said: "Assessing the casualty with our station doctor, using first aid skills and safely handling the injured person, this was just the sort of job that our volunteer crew members train for and it went very well.

"We hope the injured seaman makes a quick recovery".
