A MAN is in hospital after a serious assault.

The incident happened at around 11.45pm on Friday, May 19, when the 49-year-old man was walking alone behind Gambino’s pizza shop, which is on Lancaster Way, Thornaby.

Two men are suspected to have assaulted the man who remains in James Cook University Hospital receiving treatment for injuries to his head and body.

One suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5ft 9ins to 5ft 10ins tall, aged between 23-24 years old, of medium to stocky build and wearing a black tracksuit top, dark tracksuit bottoms and a baseball cap.

The second suspect was also a white male, approximately 5ft 6ins tall, aged between 25 to 26 years old, skinny build and wearing light coloured tracksuit bottoms, a dark tracksuit top and a hat.
