AN MP has accused the Government of “privatisation through the back door” after criticising cuts to Post Office services.

Alex Cunningham, Labour MP for Stockton North, cited the closure to the Billingham Crown Office branch and said Norton Post Office had been moved half a mile away from the High Street, despite protests from locals.

During a Westminster Hall debate the MP said there had been an impact on customers along with a loss of jobs.

The Government said it was investing, but the existing structure had to be made more affordable.
