AN EXHIBITION of paintings in Hartlepool later this month will show the changing face of the British landscape.

The work of six artists featured in the exhibition include Day Bowman, Dan Coombs, Marguerite Horner, Barbara Howey, Lee Maelzer and Sean Williams, at Hartlepool Art Gallery.

Edgelands celebrates and questions our treatment of the landscape. The work of the six artists explores and documents the landscapes in Britain which are unnamed, overlooked and often forgotten about and incorporate some of the artists’ personal journeys.

Artist and curator of the touring exhibition, Day Bowman, said: “This is the perfect location to showcase our art.

“As a group of painters we appreciate the recognition Ashley Landsbury has given to this important body of painting”.

Ashley Landsbury, Cultural Officer of Arts & Exhibitions at Hartlepool Borough Council, added: “We are thrilled to be displaying ‘Edgelands’ here in Hartlepool and truly hope people visit this unusual and captivating exhibition.

“We love displaying artwork which challenges perceptions and questions cultural ideals and so we hope it encourages people to appreciate beauty in places where they least expect to see it”.

Hartlepool Art Gallery is located in Church Square and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm. For further information, call (01429) 869706 or visit www.hartlepoolartgallery.co.uk
