MIDDLESBROUGH railway station is to be transformed into a ‘pop up’ market, playing to local businesses and independent traders.

The event, on Friday (February 17) and Saturday (February 18) from 10am to 4pm, will see the main station concourse featuring a wide range of stalls.

Visitors to the Grade II listed building will be able to buy anything from art, handcrafted gifts, vintage collectables and books to clothing, homemade cake and sweets.

David Mitchell, a team leader with TransPennine Express, which manages the station, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting this pop-up marketplace.

“The station sits at the heart of the local community and is also the gateway to Middlesbrough, making it the perfect location for an event like this.”

More than 1.3m customers pass through Middlesbrough station every year.
