ARSONISTS have destroyed a a children’s play area just days before it was due to be relaunched after it was vandalised last year.

The Kids’ Korner play area faces being pulled down after the third vandal attack in six years.

The Redcar park, which was opened in 2011, was the brainchild of children living on the Edenhall estate, who wanted somewhere to play without having to cross busy West Dyke Road.

The £9,000 play area was funded through social landlord Coast & Country, the Jack Brunton Charitable Trust and members of the community.

Councillor Alec Brown, of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, said: “Completely gutted for the volunteers and local ward Councillors in Kirkleatham who worked so hard to get this park to the standard it was. But most of all for the young children who play here.”

The attack took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
