HOUSEHOLDERS in part of North Yorkshire are being warned to be on the alert for scam calls about their council tax.
Richmondshire District Council has issued the warning to residents of following a number of telephone calls.
The authority has received reports that local people have been getting calls from someone claiming the council could be overcharging them.
And then the caller goes on to say that, for the payment of a fee, they will investigate the matter.
However the authority’s corporate director Sian Moore urged people to ignore such calls and insisted: “These calls are not genuine.”
She went on to say: “If any resident has any concerns about the council tax they are paying, including the council tax band their property is in, please contact us on 01748 829100 to discuss.”
