BISHOPTON residents were offered a host of tools and information from the fire and police service to help keep their homes secure and safe.

Darlington police and members of the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service installed smoke alarms and supplied security devices including shed alarms and Smart Water security markers during an information event in the village.

Security bike marking was also carried out.

Councillor Brian Jones, who helped organise the event, said it was very well-attended.

He said: “We know that crime is relatively low in the rural villages and we want to keep it that way, so the idea was to pass on crime prevention advice and fire safety advice, and it worked very well.

“We were kept busy all the time we were there so it was very worthwhile and I’m delighted with how it went.”
