A NORTH-EAST runner has told of his pride at taking the GB team captain's armband from Mo Farah.

Middlesbrough's Jonathan Taylor took Farah's place as captain of Team GB at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country race earlier this month and went on to finish seventh in the 8k race.

He was named as captain after Olympic Gold Medalist Mo Farah dropped out with flu.

Mr Taylor, 27, a Research Assistant at Teesside University, went on to finish 11th in the race, one of the biggest events in the cross-country year against some of the best runners in the world.

Speaking to the Teesside University magazine, he said: “It’s quite an honor and something I’ll be sure to look back on.” He was pleased with his performance, but was hoping for a higher place. He said: “I thought I ran OK and I was very strong but I never had my day.”

Mr Taylor had an impressive athletics career, finishing 31st in the 2013 Cross Country World Championship and in March, he again represent Britain in the World Championships in China.
