A SCHOOL that has worked tirelessly to engage with parents has been rewarded by being selected to work on a project run by Harvard University.

Bishopsgarth School in Stockton has been using social media and text messages as a way getting parents to interact with the school in an attempt to improve results.

After successfully taking part in the Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA) scheme, that provides a framework through which schools can deliver effective parental engagement, the school was shortlisted to take part in the project run by the American university in conjunction with Bristol University.

Assistant head teacher Ellen Reed said: “We have worked really hard to engage with the parents of our students and we thought we would try to get involved in the project being run by Harvard and Bristol universities.

“We were selected as one of 34 schools across the country to take part and from next term we will be using text messages to to provide information about homework, behaviour and upcoming tests.”

To mark their selection the school unveiled a plaque with Stockton Borough Council’s deputy mayor Ian Delgarno carrying out the task in front of gathered pupils.
