Mayor's appeal funds shared
TWO charities are sharing almost £3,000 raised by a mayor during her year in office.
The outgoing Chilton Town Mayor, Maureen Errington, donated £1,474.22 to both the Great North Air Ambulance and the British Heart Foundation.
Coun Errington hosted a range of fund raising events in aid of her mayoral appeal including a Valentine's Day dance, a civic dinner and a night at the proms.
She also received donations from businesses and groups including a walking club that collected sponsorship money for the appeal.
Coun Errington will be succeeded as Mayor by Alan Bruce, a councillor for around 15 years, and his consort will be wife Elizabeth who joined the authority at the last election.
Veteran councillor Lennie Potts, an honorary burgess of the town who has served as a councillor for almost 30 years, will be the deputy mayor.
