South West County Durham
Police roadshow to reach Dales' villages
A MOBILE police station will be touring Weardale to introduce residents to the neighbourhood policing team.
The policing 'roadshow' will visit the hard-to-reach villages over the next two months to give people the chance to voice their concerns and ideas, and to offer advice and services.
The community safety department will be property marking items such as quadbikes, trailers or bicycles to protect them from theft.
Officers will also be promoting the Wait a Second road safety campaign to help reduce casualties.
Council workers that deal with anti-social behaviour issues will join the officers.
New additions to the team, Nicola Firby and Steve Urch, both police community support officers (PCSOs), will also be visiting to meet residents.
Sergeant Dave Lyall, from Stanhope police station, said: "We ran a similar roadshow last summer which proved very successful.
"Taking the mobile station out and about gives people a chance to see we are both accessible and approachable.
"It is part of our role to respond to local concerns and these sessions should provide additional ways for residents to contact the police."
The mobile station will visit villages from 10am to 3pm on the following dates: St John's Chapel, Wednesday May 21; Wolsingham, Wednesday May 28; Tow Law, Wednesday June 4; Frosterley, June 11; Wolsingham, Tuesday June 19; Rookhope, Wednesday, June 25.
For further information contact Sgt Lyall at the new Stanhope police station in the Durham Dales Centre on 0845-60-60-365 extension 674-4470 or on email: david.lyall@durham.pnn.police.uk.
