Scouts honoured
Coun Sam Zair presents the cheque to Gary Ingham, watched by Paul Taylor, Ian Jones and Mike Nichols
Coun Sam Zair presents the cheque to Gary Ingham, watched by Paul Taylor, Ian Jones and Mike Nichols

A SCOUT group has received £300 towards new safety equipment for its headquarters.

The 2nd Bishop Auckland Scout Group was given the money towards a new smoke alarm system and sprinklers, to replace its existing manual system.

Councillor Sam Zair helped group scout leader Gary Ingham to secure the grant from the Wear Valley District Council Community Fund for its building in Kingsway, Bishop Auckland.

"We need to raise £1,200 and this is the first step on the subject," said Mr Ingham. "It's a great start and we will be fundraising and applying for other grants."

Coun Zair said that the new electrical system would improve health and safety for the scout group.

He said: "I'm happy to support the scout group because they do marvellous things for the young people."
