South West County Durham
Town reconnected
A WEBSITE which has helped promote a town for the past four years is back online with a new address.
The Bishop Auckland Town website is no longer accessible at www.bishopaucklandtown.org, its old domain.
But it is now visible at www.bishopauckland.org to continue marketing the town centre and local businesses and events.
The site was launched in November 2004 by Nigel Griffiths, then parliamentary under-secretary of state for small businesses.
It attracts hundreds of hits every month. However, it went down earlier this month, with visitors being confronted only with a blank page.
The website is maintained by Bishop Auckland's town centre manager, Stephen McCormick, who said: "We are investigating as to why it's no longer opening with the old address.
"When the reasons become clear, we'll look to see if we can get that domain name back.
"But on the positive side, we have got the site back up and running, with a different address."
The site includes links, a history of the town, and information on businesses.
