Happy First Birthday Norton Glebe Pharmacy The staff at Norton Glebe Pharmacy have been celebrating the shops first birthday this week. The pharmacy commemorated the event by raising over £600 for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Society for Mucopolysaccharide Diseases (MPS).

Ten year old Ben Conlin, from Norton, was diagnosed with MPS in 2003, a disease which left him deficient of a vital enzyme that breaks down unwanted sugars.

In many cases, MPS causes both progressive mental and physical disabilities and in some instances death in childhood.

Luckily, Ben’s strain of illness is now treatable, although there are many others which are not. MPS fund research so that more children with MPS may one day be as lucky as him.

The pharmacy raised the money by holding a tea party all week as well as a raffle and quizzes with the winning prize being a 32’’ Television. Pharmacy manager, Samantha Thompson, said: “We wanted to celebrate in style by getting the local community and residents involved”.

Samantha could not be happier with how the first year of business has gone: “Our first year has really exceeded our expectations and I’d like to thank everyone from Norton and the surrounding areas for their custom and support.

“Although it’s only been a year” says Samantha, “the staff and I have got to know so many nice people from the area and everyone keeps saying how glad they are to have a local pharmacy here”. The pharmacy is constantly striving to increase the number of services it offers to the local community in order to provide the best customer service: “As well as repeat prescription collection and delivery people can now benefit from many new NHS services that are available from our pharmacy such as the medication use review service, the stop smoking service and a sexual health service. We also offer a blood pressure and diabetes screening service free of charge”.

The pharmacy is looking forward to the year ahead and once again would like to thank all their customers for their continued support.
