ENTERPRISING schoolchildren have been rewarded for their efforts.
Pupils at St Michael's RC Comprehensive School won the first Schools Market Enterprise Challenge.
Last year more than 70 young people worked with about 20 businesses as part of Stockton Council's Enterprise Culture Project to develop a range of marketable items.
The first, second and third-placed schools showcased their ideas and successes to an audience of more than 200 at the awards ceremony at Stockton Riverside College. It included local entrepreneurs, schools and councillors as well as council leader Bob Cook.
The St Michael's pupils generated £300 by selling homemade vintage sweets which they sourced, packaged and branded for Stockton's Christmas market.
Northfield School and Sports College came second after making £240 selling personalised gnome and reindeer kits and decorations.
Meanwhile, young people at St Patrick's Catholic College, in Thornaby, developed a new chocolate product with Gareth James, an entrepreneur who set up a chocolate shop at the age of 19.
