THREE intrepid cousins battled across snow and ice to raise money for a hospice which cared for their grandfather.
Daniel and Katie Milner and Finn McCabe, of Stockton, hope to have raised more than £600 for St Teresa's Hospice, in Darlington, after a 15-mile bike ride along the Castle Eden Walkway last weekend.
The trio were so impressed with the care given to Charles Frederick Irvin by staff at the hospice they pledged to raise money to help others.
Mr Irvin, 76, a retired consultant engineer, of Whorlton, near Barnard Castle, went to the hospice on December 23 and remained there until he died on January 17.
Mr Milner said: "Staff were fantastic, not only to granddad, but the rest of the family too. We are all very grateful for the support given to us as a family."
His sister, Miss Milner, said: "When we decided to do the sponsored 15-mile cycle ride to raise funds we thought it would be quite tough but when we saw how deep the snow was we almost postponed it.
"However, after a little thought we decided to press on and raise as much money as we could."
