PLANS for a proposed wind farm and a small power plant will go on show to its potential neighbours next week.

Banks Developments is planning to build four turbines between Darlington and Stockton and a combined heat and power (CHP) scheme to provide energy for a business site.

The wind farm will be at Lambs Hill on land to the west of Stillington, north-west of Stockton.

Heat and energy generated from renewable fuels such as wood, biomass and biodiesels will be used in the heat and power scheme for businesses on Stillington Industrial Estate.

County Durham-based Banks Developments first revealed its plans for the scheme last December following discussions with Stillington and Whitton Parish Council.

In February, it launched an initial public exhibition when it said the wind farm would feature from four to six turbines.

Phil Dyke, managing director of Banks Renewables, said: "Feedback from local people has been vital in shaping all these proposals and we would encourage anyone with further questions or comments to attend the exhibition or contact us.

"In addition the Banks team will have details of potential initiatives to bring local benefit which can be funded through these projects."

Banks Developments is also behind a scheme for ten turbines at nearby Moor House Farm, close to Sadberge and Bishopton, within the Darlington borough.

Other plans in the area for wind farms are at Newbiggin, near Sadberge, and Mordon, to the east of the A1 near Sedgefield. There are also planned sites in Foxton and Butterwick.

Peter Wood, from pressure group Seven Parishes Action Group, said an Arup report said there should be a maximum of 15 turbines in the area on clusters of up to six on each.

He said: "That one particularly farm will be 3km to the north of us. When you compound it with 60 to 70 potentially proposed turbines in the area, it is just completely over the top."

Details of both schemes will be at the public exhibition held at Stillington Youth and Community Centre, Lowson Street, Stillington, on Wednesday, September 8, from 3pm to 7pm.
