A WORLD champion canoeist has become an ambassador for a new £4.6m whitewater course in the region.
World and European team champion Laura Blakeman will promote the facility at the Tees Barrage, in Stockton, as a pre-2012 Games training camp.
She will inform international teams at the World Canoe Championships, in Slovenia, about the facility next week.
Work began earlier this year to improve the course.
Changes include reconfiguring the main course, building a second shorter course and installing four 12m-long by 3m-diameter Archimedes screws, to pump the water needed to create guaranteed conditions for canoeists, rafters and other whitewater sports.
