Plans to restore Globe Theatre are submitted

PLANS to relaunch a live music venue have been put forward.

Development company Jomast has submitted a planning application to Stockton Borough Council to bring back the Globe Theatre, in Stockton.

During the Fifties and Sixties, it was one of the region’s most popular music venues, attracting the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly and Cliff Richard.

Built as a cinema in 1913, the building is renowned for its art deco architecture, and closed in 1993.

Plans include a multi-million-pound restoration, extending the venue and converting an adjacent vacant property into a modern bar and bistro.

Jomast managing director Stuart Monk said: “The present external appearance and character of the buildings will be fully retained and preserved, and the internal layout will be largely unchanged.”
