A REVAMP of rundown communities has reached a milestone.
Erimus Housing is carrying out its 1,000th demolition as it continues to deliver major changes in neighbourhoods across Teesside.
The latest work has started at Derwent House, a sheltered accommodation scheme of 23 flats in Billingham, after ownership was transferred to the social housing company from Stockton Council.
Managing director Chris Smith said: "It is a real landmark that we have reached our 1,000th demolition and it is something that we can celebrate.
"Clearing problematic properties has proved to make a really positive contribution to the communities they are situated in."
The firm as already cleared 265 houses in the Grove Hill area of Middlesbrough and demolished two blocks of flats in the Netherfield area of the town.
Many the properties were already vacant but a number of displaced residents have been provided with new homes.
Mr Smith added: "These changes have helped to reduce anti-social behaviour and provide better open spaces for neighbourhoods."
