Enjoy a 'cuppa' with a copper

RESIDENTS will have the chance to have a cuppa with their local beat bobbies as they take up residency in a hospital reception.

Cleveland Police will use the foyer of the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton to help develop community ties.

The centre will be used mainly by the Neighbourhood Police Team for the Hardwick Ward area so residents can air any concerns or issues they may have.

Inspector Steve Young from Stockton Neighbourhood Policing team said: "I am really glad there is now a base for the Police officers and PCSOs to spend more time engaging with the public which will result in an increased presence on their ward area and an enhanced opportunity to consult with the community on issues affecting the Hardwick estate.

"This office is unique as it gives the patients and staff of the hospital a chance to have their say on issues. The local officers will also be using the hospital radio to advertise the new office and give the patients information on crime prevention and times when they can meet with the staff in the office."

The plan will see at least one meeting a month when residents can meet up with the officers working in that area.

Director of Operations for North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust Kevin Oxley said: "We are keen to work together to promote safety and security and well as providing a community focus for local people."

The officers will be in the hospital on Monday, December 7 between 6.30pm and 7.30pm and on Tuesday, December 22 between 5pm and 6pm.
