YOUNG musicians are to be given help developing their skills after their project was awarded nearly £20,000 funding.
The Activity Den, in Tanfield Lea, near Stanley, has been awarded the money to sustain its Rock The Den Reborn Project.
It will be used to develop the venue’s existing music projects, including offering group music lessons and also taster sessions.
Youth Music has agreed funding of £18,600 for the venue, which attracts around 200 youngsters every week and is experiencing a second life after coming close to closure in 2008 during a cash crisis.
The funding has allowed The Activity Den to employ its first member of the staff: music trainee Lee Edwards.
He said: "This is an exciting music project creating music with young people within the surrounding the community and I am looking forward to working together with them to help improve their musical skills in an informal, relaxed and vibrant atmosphere".
