MUSICAL maestros hit the right notes at a major arts event to land three prizes for their school.
Rosa Street Primary School, in Spennymoor, won the awards when they made their competition debut at the Darlington Festival of Performing Arts.
The school choir won the junior singing category; flute trio Amber Skoropinski, Beth Smallman and Lauren Davison won the junior music making award and Amber won the under 12 woodwind solo class.
Music has been highlighted as one of the school’s outstanding features and all pupils get the chance to learn to play an instrument and between 30 and 40 pupils are in the choir.
The school regularly performs at school, community and church events but the festival was the first music competition they have entered.
Music teacher Christine Haslepp said: "We’re all very proud of how well they did, it was a big ask to perform in front of new people and in competition but they rose to the occasion and performed fantastically.
"They get a lot out of taking part in music and enjoy performing and the feedback."
