Sophie Watson, 13, has lost her Miss Teen Cinderella UK 2009

A TEENAGE beauty queen has been stripped of her title after a row over her appearing in rival contests.

Sophie Watson, 13, from Spennymoor, County Durham, has lost her Miss Teen Cinderella UK 2009 crown after allegedly taking part in glamour pageants in America.

Her family say the row broke out when Sophie refused to get involved with the organisers’ other projects.

But Diana Hare, chief executive of the UK Cinderella Pageant, said it was because Sophie wanted to do “glitzglamour”

pageants.

At one stage police became involved over allegations of a hate campaign, with Sophie’s mother, Joy Watson, 38, reporting a series of intimidating phone calls and abusive Facebook messages.

Ms Hare, a former model, said: “It is against our rules for title holders to enter other major contests.

“Girls who win UK Cinderella Pageant titles are obligated not to enter other pageants. They need to learn to be loyal.

“Sophie wanted to do glitzglam pageants, where the girls wear a lot of make-up and revealing clothes.

“We do not accept age inappropriate clothing in the Cinderella Pageant. We are about a natural look.”

Sophie flew out to the US last year to compete in the Universal Royalty National Pageant in Austin, Texas – the biggest of its kind in the US.

Sophie is also the reigning Mini Miss UK and Miss Teen Great Britain International Tourism 2010, and holds several other regional titles.

The Tudhoe Grange School pupil has recently been filming for the BBC, and the family have agreed not to speak directly to the press.

However, The Northern Echo understands the family refute Ms Hare’s claims and say Sophie was encouraged to take part in other contests.

Durham Police confirmed Sophie’s mother contacted them, but after speaking to both parties the matter will not be taken further.

The documentary on Sophie, who is also a talented singer and hopes for a career on the West End stage or in the pop charts, is expected to be aired next month.
