Views sought for new village school

6:04pm Monday 8th February 2010

FAMILIES are being asked for their views on proposals for a new primary school building for their village by 2012.

Durham County Council proposes rebuilding Kirk Merrington Primary School to improve facilities for children, staff and the community.

An event is being held at the school this week to give people more information and a chance to share their views.

The current school premises, on South View, Kirk Merrington, near Spennymoor, are in need of modernisation.

The proposals would see the old building replaced with a single-storey school on the same site, flipping location with the playing field.

Space would be created for more pupils from new housing being built in the area and vehicular access moved about 50 metres along the C36 road to Chilton to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians.

Local people, particularly parents, carers and those with an interest in the primary school, are invited to a consultation event at the school on Wednesday ( February 10) at 7pm.

Views can also be shared via consultation forms, which have been distributed in the area, or emailed to schoolorganisation@durham.gov.uk.

All responses must be received by February 28.
