POLICE have confirmed that a body discovered near Spennymoor, County Durham, yesterday was that of a missing woman.
The 54-year-old woman had been reported missing from her home in Etherley Dene, near Bishop Auckland, by her husband on Monday night.
Police launched inquiries to try to trace her as there was concerns for her welfare.
A man out walking his dog at breakfast time on Wednesday spotted her body around 300m from Page Bank bridge.
A fire and rescue crew recovered her body from the River Wear.
A post mortem will be carried out and an inquest is expected to be opened in the next few days.
