RESIDENTS in south Durham are being encouraged to try their hand at golf in Crook and Barnard Castle.

Durham County Council’s sport and leisure team is hosting sessions for men and women, at Barnard Castle Golf Club, on Saturdays, at 1.30pm, and women-only sessions, at Crook Golf Club, on Fridays, at 4.30pm.

No experience is necessary. Professional coaching and all equipment will be provided.

Marie Urwin, the county council’s sports and physical activity project officer, said: "Golf is a great way for people to get active.

"These sessions are for people who are keen to try the sport and they are proving to be really popular."
