A TALENTED teenager has gained her first call up to represent Great Britain in a gymnastics competition in Switzerland.

Jade Armstrong, 13, of Westerton Estate, Spennymoor, headed to Switzerland to compete in the under-15 junior international team last weekend.

The Spennymoor Comprehensive School pupil is a member of the South Durham Gymnastics Club.

Joanne Pennock, Jade’s mother, said: "I very proud of her and this is a very proud moment for the family.

"This is the first time she has been picked for the Great Britain team and she is really excited about it.

"She has been doing a lot of training over the years and she has entered a lot of competitions around the country."

Amy Tinkler, of Bishop Auckland, also joined up with the Great Britain team and headed to Switzerland.

The Durham High School pupil also trains at the South Durham Gymnastics Club and this is the third time she has represented her country.
