A FAMILY fun day helped to raise more than £1,600 towards a dance academy’s summer show.

About 200 people visited the fundraising event hosted by the Aycliffe Dance Academy, at the Bethany Centre, in Woodham, Newton Aycliffe, on Saturday.

Visitors browsed stalls and children enjoyed a variety of entertainment including a bouncy castle and face painting.

Emma Cox, principal, said that many members of the public supported the event as well as those involved with the dance academy.

She praised parents of the young members who made cakes, donated items to sell, and held stalls at the event, and said: "It was a brilliant day and went really well. There were more people than last year and we were over the moon with how much money was raised.

"There was a lot of good feedback from parents, who said there was so much for the kids to do, and we got quite a few inquiries from people wanting to start classes."

The money raised will go towards funding costumes for the young members to wear during their summer show, which will be performed in July.
