A COMMUNITY radio station has celebrated five years on the airwaves.

Radio Teesdale marked its anniversary with a series of birthday broadcasts by presenters Patto and Paul Griffin, James Hamilton-Trewhitt, Ruth Dent, Denise Dent, Robin Wallington, Katey Wallace, John Gelson, Alan Bradley and Jamezy Harrison, and a party at Barnard Castle Cricket Club.

Among the wellwishers was Teesdale's MP Helen Good-man, who is also Shadow Minister for Culture and Media, who called the station to offer her best wishes.

The station is run by volunteers and its manager, Peter Dixon, is the only full-time employee.

It was recently granted a licence extension to broadcast until March 2017.

A station spokesman said: "We provide a strong community focus for our broadcasting."

The station is available in Teesdale on 102.1FM and 105.5FM or listen online at radioteesdale.co.uk.
